Kannada Actor-Comedian Rakesh Poojary Dies of Cardiac Arrest at 34
‘Comedy Kiladigalu’ Season 3 winner collapses at pre-wedding event in Udupi; Kannada industry mourns
Kannada television actor and Comedy Khiladigalu Season 3 winner Rakesh Poojary passed away following a heart attack, leaving fans, friends, and the coastal entertainment industry in deep shock. The 30-year-old actor, known for his infectious smile and comic timing, breathed his last on Sunday.
Fondly called the “Charlie Chaplin of the Coast,” Rakesh rose to fame for his impeccable comic timing. After winning the reality show, he quickly became a household name across Karnataka. His popularity opened doors to multiple opportunities in both Kannada and Tulu theatre and films, making him a sought-after performer.
On Sunday, Rakesh had attended his friend’s wedding in Udupi and later joined a mehendi ceremony in Karkala. According to sources, while dancing at the event, he suddenly experienced severe chest pain and collapsed. He was rushed to the Karkala Government Hospital, where he was declared dead. A post-mortem was conducted there.
His mortal remains were brought to his hometown Kemmannu Paduthonse, near Udupi, where hundreds of villagers, friends, and colleagues gathered to pay their last respects. Many actors from the television industry were present to bid him an emotional farewell.
According to his family, Rakesh showed no prior health concerns before the sudden cardiac arrest. He was recently working on Kantara Chapter 1.
A public viewing was held at Hoode, with thousands lining up to catch one last glimpse of the beloved actor. His funeral procession proceeded to a beachside crematorium, where the final rites were performed.
“He came into our lives with a smile and left with one too,” said actress Vani. Actor Shivaraj K.R. Pete added, “The Kannada TV industry has lost one of its brightest young stars.” Director Yogaraj Bhat, actress Rakshita Prem, and anchor Anushree were among those who paid their final respects.
