Kalaburagi Travellers Escape Devastating Floods In Nepal By Close Quarters

Two persons from Kalaburagi en route to Manasa Sarovar, China escaped from devastating flood in Nepal on Wednesday by a whisker.

The driver of the bus in which two persons-Mallinath and his son-in-law Sangamesh along with 25 co-travellers from Hyderabad were travelling was alerted over the devastating flood approaching and the bus driver showing presence of mind quickly navigated the bus to an elevated location to escape from being swept away in the devastating floods.

Recalling the scenes, Mallinath told Deccan Chronicle from Kathmandu on Thursday the bus driver through another route safely made the travellers reach Kathmandu without hassles.

Sharing his experience to Deccan Chronicle on Thursday, Mallinath, a businessman, said he and his son-in-law left for Manasa Sarovar on August 21 and reached Nepal on August 22 morning. On arrival, Chinese authorities delayed their visa for 3-days and Mallinath and Sangamesh waited for a visa to visit Manasa Sarovar, about 500-km from Kathmandu.

Finally, Mallinath said the visa was cleared and embarked upon their journey to Manasa Sarovar. Just before they were to stay at a location on the China border, they received the news of devastating floods lashing the region before the bus driver managed to take the bus to safety.

Mallinath said the travel agency arranged food for the travellers and their return tickets have also been confirmed. “We will fly back to Delhi to land at Hyderabad and reach their destination Kalagi in Kalaburagi,” said Mallinath.

Speaking on the relief measures in Nepal, Mallinath said relief operations have been going on a war footing and ambulances operate every minute to ferry injured.

Mallinath aid Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar spoke to him to know the condition in Nepal and the traveller said “I told the Chief Minister all arrangements made by his travel agency for their return.”
