The bribe demanded by the Inspector was reportedly to help the complainant Mohammed Akbar, a builder in a criminal case
BENGALURU: Inspector Govindaraju attached to Kempapura Agrahara of Bengaluru city was caught red-handed by sleuths of Karnataka Lokayukta while the Inspector allegedly received Rs 4 lakh cash as bribe from the complainant when the trap was laid.
The bribe demanded by the Inspector was reportedly to help the complainant Mohammed Akbar, a builder in a criminal case. The trap was laid on Thursday at the City Armed Force grounds of Chamarajapet, Bengaluru city at around 4.30 pm.
Mohammed Akbar, a builder, had filed a complaint with the Lokayukta over bribe demand by Inspector Govindaraju and Lokayukta police acted on it under Prevention of Corruption Act. Apart from filing a complaint, the complainant reportedly submitted a pen drive containing mobile phone conversation between them wherein the Inspector reportedly spoke on bribery. It is said, Govindaraju received Rs 1 lakh while the deal was for Rs 5 lakh.
It is said Govindaraju had assured to drop the names of builder Mohammed Akbar and two others in a cheating case and placed a demand for Rs 5 lakh while Rs 1 lakh was paid as part of the deal reached earlier by Akbar after an assurance to settle the remaining part of the bribe on Thursday before a trap was laid successfully. After the trap, Lokayukta police secured the Inspector.
