INS Malvan, Indigenous Anti-Submarine Warship, to Be Commissioned at Karwar

The Indian Navy will add another indigenously built anti-submarine warfare vessel to its fleet with the commissioning of INS Malvan at the Naval Base in Karwar on July 22.

Designed and built by Cochin Shipyard Limited, under the Centre's Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative, the vessel has over 80 per cent indigenous content and was developed with the participation of major Indian defence companies and micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs).

INS Malvan is equipped with advanced combat and surveillance systems. Its Combat Management System, jointly developed by BEL and WESEE, integrates sensors and weapons for rapid threat response.

Named after "Malvan" in Maharashtra, the ship honours India's maritime heritage and the legacy of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. Its crest features the "Bagh Nakha" (Tiger's Claw), symbolising stealth, agility, and courage.
