Indi Alliance Has No Moral Right to Speak on Constitution: Basavaraj Bommai
Haveri MP targets Mamata Banerjee over refusal to step down after poll defeat
Haveri MP and former Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Wednesday launched a sharp attack on the INDI Alliance, questioning its credibility on issues of the Constitution, democracy and B. R. Ambedkar. He alleged that the alliance’s continued support to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, despite what he termed a “humiliating defeat” in the Assembly elections, exposed its double standards.
Addressing reporters in Haveri, Bommai accused the All India Trinamool Congress government in West Bengal of acting against constitutional principles and failing to safeguard the interests of women, the poor and ordinary citizens. He further alleged that Banerjee’s refusal to resign reflected a disregard for democratic values.
Bommai claimed that the Chief Minister’s leadership style was rooted in authoritarianism and said recent political developments had brought this to light. The remarks come amid heightened political exchanges following the West Bengal election outcome, with parties trading charges over governance and democratic accountability.
