IMD issues heat wave warning for coastal Karnataka for next two days
IMD asks residents to take necessary precautions as temperatures expected to remain high

Mangaluru: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heat wave warning for Coastal Karnataka for the next two days, cautioning residents about soaring temperatures and increased humidity levels.
"Heat Wave conditions are very likely to prevail over the districts of Coastal Karnataka for next 2 days," the Impact Based forecast and warnings issued by IMD at 1 pm on Wednesday stated.
"Due to increase of Relative Humidity between (40-50) percent and maximum Air temperature in the range of (37-39) Deg Celsius over Coastal Karnataka, the human body perceive the maximum temperature in the range between (40-50) Deg Cel," it added.
According to IMD several locations in the region have already recorded high temperatures . At 8.30 am on Wednesday, Honnavar recorded 35.9 degrees Celsius, Karwar 37.5 degrees Celsius, Panambur 37.2 degrees Celsius, and Mangaluru Airport (Bajpe) 36.9 degrees Celsius. Meanwhile, Bagalkote recorded 34.4 degrees Celsius and Kalaburagi 35.8 degrees Celsius.
With temperatures expected to remain high, authorities have urged residents to take necessary precautions. Prolonged exposure to extreme heat can lead to heat-related illnesses, particularly for those engaged in outdoor activities or heavy labor. Infants, the elderly, and individuals with chronic health conditions are at higher risk.
To minimize health risks, the IMD advises avoiding direct sun exposure, especially between 12 pm and 3 pm , and drinking plenty of water, even when not thirsty. Residents are encouraged to wear light-colored, loose-fitting cotton clothing and use protective coverings such as hats, umbrellas, or scarves when stepping outdoors.
Additionally, people have been asked to provide shade to their animals and also sufficient water. To stay hydrated, people have been advised to consume oral rehydration solutions (ORS) and natural cooling drinks such as lassi, torani (rice water), lemon water, and buttermilk. Authorities have urged the public to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions to prevent heat-related health complications.
