High Court Forms Panel To Study Bench In Mangaluru, Other Districts

MANGALURU: The Karnataka High Court has constituted a three-member committee to examine the feasibility of establishing a circuit or permanent bench in Mangaluru/Udupi and other districts in the region.
The committee will also examine the feasibility of benches in Shivamogga, Chikkamagaluru, Kodagu, Hassan, Davangere and Uttara Kannada.
Constituted by the Chief Justice of the Karnataka High Court on September 29, the committee comprises Justice Anu Sivaraman, Justice SG Pandit and Justice Mohammad Nawaz.
According to the notification, the committee will consult all stakeholders and submit a report on the feasibility of establishing a circuit or permanent bench in the identified regions.
The Mangaluru Bar Association welcomed the constitution of the committee, describing it as an important step towards establishing a High Court bench in Mangaluru.
Association president Jagadish K. Shenava said people from the coastal region currently have to travel to Bengaluru for High Court-related legal proceedings.
A bench in Mangaluru would make access to justice easier for people in the region and reduce the time and financial burden involved in travelling to Bengaluru, he said.
He said the notification was a significant step in the efforts that had been underway for several years to establish a High Court bench in Mangaluru.
The Mangaluru Bar Association would continue to extend its cooperation and make constructive efforts towards establishing the bench in Mangaluru, Shenava said.
