Heavy Rains Hit Farmers In Bidar; Crops In 12,000 ha Affected

Bidar: Heavy rains and flooding in Bidar district have damaged standing crops spread across 12,442 hectares during the ongoing Kharif season. The district administration has compiled crop-wise and taluk-wise data and sought a relief package of Rs 1,085.27 lakh from the government.
According to data compiled by the agriculture department, Aurad taluk has been the worst affected, where 4,960 hectares of crops have been lost. Green gram (330 ha), black gram (240 ha), red gram (1,310 ha), and soybean (3,040 ha) were hit the hardest. Cotton over 40 hectares was also damaged. The compensation sought for Aurad stands at Rs 417.52 lakh, the highest in the district.

Bhalki taluk reported damage of 1,000 hectares—600 ha of green gram, 100 ha of black gram, 200 ha of red gram and 100 ha of soybean—translating to a claim of Rs 84.32 lakh.
Losses in Humnabad amounted to 600 ha with crops such as red gram (185 ha) and green gram (265 ha) being the worst hit, for which Rs 48.96 lakh has been sought. In Bidar taluk, the damage covered 480 hectares, including 210 ha of green gram, 160 ha of black gram, 40 ha of red gram, 50 ha of soybean, and 20 ha of cotton, with a total relief claim of Rs 40.37 lakh. Similarly, Chitguppa taluk reported crop loss of 300 hectares, comprising 130 ha of green gram, 92 ha of black gram, and 78 ha of red gram, for which a claim of Rs 24.99 lakh has been submitted.
In Basavakalyan, 250 hectares were affected, including 90 ha of green gram, 70 ha of black gram and 80 ha of red gram. The estimated compensation stands at Rs 77.86 lakh. Hulsoor, though less impacted, reported 50 hectares of crop loss with a claim of Rs 4.25 lakh.
Overall, the administration has sought Rs 930.74 lakh for small and marginal farmers, calculated at Rs 8,500 per hectare, and Rs 154.53 lakh for big farmers, based on double the rate.
