Hampi Cleanup Drive: Administration Acts on Lapses Flagged During FM's Visit
Hampi, the erstwhile capital of the Vijayanagara Empire and a Unesco World Heritage site, attracts a large number of domestic and international tourists
Hosapete: Vijayanagara District Deputy Commissioner Kavitha S. Mannikeri conducted a comprehensive inspection of cleanliness and civic facilities in Hampi on Thursday, accompanied by a team of officials including the Assistant Commissioner and ASI.
Despite it being a public holiday, the DC, who took charge about three months ago, personally toured key locations across the heritage town and reviewed sanitation arrangements and other amenities. She laid emphasis on cleanliness and issued detailed directions to officials to ensure better upkeep and monitoring at tourist spots.
The inspection comes at a time when cleanliness at Hampi has drawn attention following Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman’s recent visit, during which she is said to have flagged concerns over sanitation issues at certain locations.
According to sources, instructions were given to address lapses in sanitation and to improve overall maintenance in areas frequented by visitors.
Hampi, the erstwhile capital of the Vijayanagara Empire and a Unesco World Heritage site, attracts a large number of domestic and international tourists. While the administration has been taking steps to improve facilities, cleanliness continues to be a key concern, particularly during peak tourist seasons.
