Guv Gehlot Invites Shivakumar To Take Oath As Karnataka CM Along With Team On Jun 3

Shivakumar was accompanied by outgoing Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and other senior state leaders.

BENGALURU: Karnataka Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot on Saturday invited newly elected Congress Legislature Party leader D.K. Shivakumar for oath taking ceremony as Chief Minister on June 3 at 4.05 pm at Lok Bhavan premises in Bengaluru. Shivakumar represents Kanakapura Assembly seat in Bengaluru South district.

Earlier a delegation of Congress MLAs met the Governor at his office wherein newly elected CLP leader D.K. Shivakumar staked a claim to form a new Government. After getting unanimously elected as the new Congress Legislature Party leaders, Chief Minister designate D.K. Shivakumar on Saturday in a letter to Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot stated he is ready to take oath as Chief Minister on June 3 at 4.05 pm. He requested the Governor to permit him to take oath as Chief Minister and that his party chose MLAs as Council of Ministers.

On Friday, the Governor accepted the resignation tendered by Siddaramaiah to the post of Chief Minister and dissolved the Council of Ministers under him.

In a letter to Governor, Shivakumar explained 135 elected as MLAs of the Indian National Congress, two Associate members-Puttaswamy Gowda representing Gowribidanur Assembly seat and Latha Mallikarjun, representing Harapanahalli Assembly seat and a Raitha Sangha MLA Darshan Puttanaiah have unanimously elected and he represents Melukote Assembly seat in Mandya, elected him as the new CLP leader at a meeting held on Saturday.

After the election of a new CLP leader, general secretary of All India Congress Committee told reporters that the transition of power went smoothly.
