Government Holiday On Kempegowda Jayanthi Suggested

BENGALURU: Declaration of Nadaprabhu Kempegowda, the founder of Bengaluru city, as the cultural icon of Bengaluru was among many suggestions received by Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar on Tuesday at a preparatory meeting held in celebration of Kempegowda Jayanthi falling on June 27. The Kempegowda Jayanthi will be celebrated on June 27 at 11.30 am at the newly developed Kempegowda Layout in Bengaluru city.

While there were suggestions, the Chief Minister announced plans to build a Town Planning College in the name of Kempegowda and preparations are underway for the college within the campus of Visvesvaraya Technological University campus.

D.K. Shivakumar said a theme park on Kempegowda in the vicinity of Kempegowda International Airport at Devanahalli near Bengaluru has been completed and preparations are being made for its inauguration under the leadership of Minister of Bengaluru Development Krishna Byre Gowda.

Among other suggestions to Chief Minister include declaration of a government holiday on Kempegowda jayanthi on June 27, construction of an international park and an international community hall after Kempegowda, a museum on Kempegowda, construction of Kempegowda Bhavans in all districts, cleaning and rejuvenation of Bengaluru’s lakes in the memory of Kempegowda among many others.

Major suggestions to the Chief Minister was development of Kempegowda burial site over 10 acres and inclusion of Kempegowda’s life history in textbooks.

On June 27 that is on the Kempegowda Jayanthi, Shivakumar said a programme will be launched to plant 15 lakh saplings across Bengaluru city and the planting of saplings will be taken-up by Bengaluru Development Authority.
