Fire Victims to Get Ex Gratia of Rs 5 Lakh from Karnataka Government
On Sunday, Bengaluru incharge minister D.K. Shivakumar inspected the building which caught fire at Nagarathpet and stated the deceased belonged to Rajasthan and had settled in Bengaluru in search of their livelihood.
Bengaluru: The kith and kin of the victims of fire accident at Nagarathpet of Bengaluru on Saturday to get Rs 5 lakh ex gratia from the State Government, stated Deputy Chief Minister and Bengaluru incharge D.K. Shivakumar on Sunday.
5 persons including a woman and two children died owing to suffocation when a fire engulfed the building they were sleeping at Nagarthpet on Saturday early morning. Thick flames from the fire surrounding the building led to the deaths.
On Sunday, Bengaluru incharge minister D.K. Shivakumar inspected the building which caught fire at Nagarathpet and stated the deceased belonged to Rajasthan and had settled in Bengaluru in search of their livelihood.
He said he was shocked to come across people living in congested locations such as Nagarthapet, Chickpet and wondered about the safety of the people in case of a fire accident and observed “In case of a major fire, people will rush towards safety and could result in a stampede.”
“A survey will be conducted to identify buildings posing danger in Bengaluru city. Building permission has been given for construction of two-three floors but some have construction morethan permitted. Similar scenario prevails in Mumbai, Delhi among others,” said the Bengaluru incharge minister and stated “Nearly 70 percent of the constructed buildings are illegal constructions.”
