Kalaburagi: Accusing the state government of repeatedly hurting Hindu sentiments, Karnataka BJP president BY Vijayendra on Monday announced a statewide agitation against what he termed the ruling party's "anti-Hindu policies."

Addressing reporters in Aland, Vijayendra alleged that the state government had insulted Hindus by withdrawing cases registered against persons accused of attacking the Raghava Chaitanya Mandir located within the premises of the disputed Ladle Mashak Dargah in Aland.

He said the Congress government had been repeatedly hurting Hindu sentiments.

Condemning the government's action of withdrawing the case, he said that the BJP has organised a symbolic protest in Kalaburagi.

Vijayendra warned that in the coming days the party would launch statewide protests against what he described as the Congress government's anti-Hindu policies.

“BJP would also undertake an awareness campaign among people regarding repeated insults to Hindus. The Congress government is under the misconception that it came to power solely because of minority votes. The government's actions suggested it was unconcerned about Hindu votes and was willing to hurt Hindu sentiments. We will not sit quietly and watch all this happen," he said.

Vijayendra also referred to the recent unrest in Bhatkal over the Murina Katte issue and said the BJP had stood with Hindu organisations and activists protesting the matter.

The BJP leader coupled the cultural and religious issues with a broader attack on the government's performance, alleging that the Congress administration had little to show in terms of development despite being in power for three years.

"Whoever becomes Chief Minister, development is not going to happen under this government. No major new projects have been launched, and funds have not been released even for existing programmes," he alleged.

Turning to the government's decision to permit hijabs in educational institutions, Vijayendra said schools and colleges should maintain a common dress code and alleged that the move would create divisions among students.

"Educational institutions are meant for learning. There should be a uniform dress code for all students. The government is taking decisions in an arrogant manner because it is intoxicated by power," he said.

Vijayendra participated in a protest held in Kalaburagi on Monday against the withdrawal of the case related to the violence at the Ladle Mashak Dargah in Aland.

During the protest, Vijayendra demanded that the government re-register the cases against those involved in the incident and initiate stringent legal action against them in accordance with the law.

The BJP leaders who participated in the protest questioned the government's motives, alleging that it had withdrawn the cases solely for vote-bank appeasement.
