BENGALURU: Disciplinary Committee of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) on Sunday served a show cause notice to its MLA Basavaraj Shivaganga over his statement on change of leadership and termed the statement by him amounted to “indiscipline." The show cause asked the MLA to respond to the notice in 7 days.

In the show cause served on Basavaraj Shivaganga, MLA of Channagiri Assembly seat in Davangere, by Disciplinary Committee convenor Nivedita Alva stated the statement on leadership created confusion and also caused embarrassment to the party. The statement has been viewed seriously by the Disciplinary Committee before a decision was taken to serve a show-cause notice.

In may be recalled here, Basavaraj Shivaganga on Saturday in a chat with reporters stated Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar would ascend the post of Chief Minister in December (replacing Chief Minister Siddaramaiah).

Regarding the statement by Shivaganga, Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar had stated to serve a show cause notice to Basavaraj Shivaganga and said MLAs/Ministers have been told not to make public statements on party matters.

The statement by Shivaganga amounted to violation of party discipline, said Shivakumar, also the president of Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC).
