BENGALURU: The price of commercial gas cylinders going up by Rs 993 with the latest hike will now to cost Rs 3071.50 per cylinder with effect from Friday and the latest hike in price of commercial gas cylinders by Union Government was an expected move by the Union Government after the Assembly elections to West Bengal and other couple of States are completed, said Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.

He termed the hike is nothing but “organized looting” and stated “What a cruel irony on Labour Day,” remarked the Chief Minister on price hike. The Chief Minister observed “The latest hike is only the beginning. More such increases will follow in coming days and the burden will keep shifting to citizens.” Adding, he said, “This is the Modi model-mislead the people during elections and burden the after.”

In a statement, Siddaramaiah stated it is the sixth hike in price of gas cylinders in about four months and the price of commercial gas has gone up Rs 1,518 and he said instead of protecting the citizens of the country, Prime Minister Narendra Modi simply passes the burden on the citizens.

“His much publicized but hollow foreign policy has failed to shield our economy and now ordinary citizens are paying the price for it,” stated the Chief Minister and he accused the Prime Minister of deliberately holding back hike in price of commercial gas cylinders during the election period.

Siddaramaiah said the hike will not only affect businesses but will hit every household. Hotels, restaurants, small eateries and catering services will be forced to increase prices making food more expensive in coming days.
