BENGALURU: Urging industries to lay stress on strengthening primary education and on rural education in Karnataka, Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar on Thursday asked the industries to/companies to adopt schools, build educational infrastructure so that students are not forced to migrate to Bengaluru for quality education.
“Your priority should be primary education. I want you to adopt schools and build infrastructure,” he said and pointed out “Companies such as Toyota are already building schools.” Shivakumar said “I want more industries to take a cue from it.”
“The companies should go beyond funding infrastructure but also provide skill personnel to support education,” said the Chief Minister at the Global CSR and Sustainability Summit-2026 organised by the Federation of Karnataka Chamber of Commerce and Industry and at the Summit, he stated “A child has to compete on global standards. That is why we have introduced various policies.”
Currently, he said, Karnataka has around 10,000 Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) projects and a separate team would be established to monitor the CSR initiatives in Mysuru, Hubballi and other regions.
“CSR is not a charity rather than an investment in sustainable development,” the Chief Minister said and stated “Responsible corporate leaders have taken the CSR concept seriously.”
Shivakumar said the government’s immediate focus is on primary education alongside sustainability in a rapidly transforming society through technological advancements such as artificial intelligence.
