Bommai Accuses Rahul Gandhi of Double Standards Over Voter List-Linked Benefits
Bommai pointed out that Karnataka Chief Minister DK Shivakumar had himself announced a similar approach, stating that only those whose names figure in the voters' list would be eligible for the State government's guarantee schemes and other benefits
Haveri: Haveri MP and Former Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai has accused Congress leader Rahul Gandhi of adopting double standards by opposing the Centre's reported proposal to link beneficiaries of government schemes with electoral rolls while remaining silent on a similar position taken by the Karnataka government.
In a post on X, Bommai said Union Panchayat Raj Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh (Lalan Singh) had only spoken about the possibility of linking beneficiaries' selection to electoral rolls and no order had been issued in this regard. However, Rahul Gandhi had already strongly opposed the idea, he said.
Bommai pointed out that Karnataka Chief Minister DK Shivakumar had himself announced a similar approach, stating that only those whose names figure in the voters' list would be eligible for the State government's guarantee schemes and other benefits.
“It is highly ironic that Rahul Gandhi is turning a blind eye to what is happening in his own State and opposing the Centre merely to criticise it. There are several such instances. What his party is implementing in its own State is precisely what he is demanding from the Centre. This clearly shows that he is politicising every issue, which is highly condemnable,” Bommai stated.
