Bidar district has emerged as the top performer in Karnataka in the ongoing rural housing survey under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana–Gramin (PMAY–G). According to data released by the Rajiv Gandhi Housing Corporation on April 8, as many as 43,700 households have been surveyed so far in the district.

Member of Parliament Sagar Ishwar Khandre announced that for the year 2024–25, a target of distributing 40,546 houses has been set for Bidar under the PMAY scheme. Of these, 14,627 houses have already been sanctioned, securing Bidar’s top rank in the state.

He commended the officials and Gram Panchayat staff for their efforts in achieving this milestone. Karnataka is also the first state in the country to conduct the PMAY–Gramin survey through a mobile app, enabling greater ease and transparency.

In Bidar, 10,471 households completed the self-survey using the app, while 33,229 surveys were conducted with the help of Gram Panchayat staff. Families yet to be surveyed can either submit relevant documents to their local Panchayat or complete the process themselves using the mobile application.

The survey, held every five years by the Rajiv Gandhi Housing Corporation, is currently underway following the previous one conducted in 2017–18. The final date for survey completion is April 30.

Eligibility for the scheme includes families without housing or land, those residing in kutcha (temporary) houses, and households with an annual income below ₹1.80 lakh.

To streamline the process, Housing Nodal Officers have been appointed at the district and taluk levels. At the Panchayat level, bill collectors, Grade-1 secretaries, and Panchayat Development Officers are serving as designated surveyors.

Homeless and site-less individuals can also self-enroll using the mobile app. Beneficiaries from general and backward classes are eligible for a housing grant of ₹2 lakh, while those from Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes can avail themselves of a grant of ₹1.75 lakh.
