Belagavi City Police Equipped With Advanced Mobile Forensic Van
The specially designed vehicle has been introduced to help investigating officers preserve and collect scientific evidence at crime scenes in accordance with standard operating procedures, thereby improving the quality of investigations and strengthening prosecution in courts
Belagavi: Belagavi City Police Commissionerate has been equipped with a state-of-the-art Mobile Forensic Van that will enable investigators to collect and preserve scientific evidence directly at crime scenes, strengthening the quality of criminal investigations.
The specially designed vehicle has been introduced to help investigating officers preserve and collect scientific evidence at crime scenes in accordance with standard operating procedures, thereby improving the quality of investigations and strengthening prosecution in courts.
According to Belagavi City Police Commissioner Bhusah Gulabrao Borase, the van is equipped with 16 specialised forensic kits and modern instruments required for examining a wide range of crime scenes. These include kits for detecting and collecting blood, semen and DNA samples, investigating sexual assault cases, handling firearms and explosives, screening narcotics, collecting digital evidence, probing arson cases, and lifting fingerprints and footprints.
The vehicle is also fitted with high-intensity light sources, a stereo microscope, a refrigerator for preserving biological samples, a GPS-enabled body-worn camera, generator, UPS, floodlights, LED display, a high-resolution camera for crime scene documentation and specialised packing materials for the safe preservation and transport of evidence.
Police officials said the Mobile Forensic Van would enable Scene of Crime Officers (SOCO) to reach crime scenes quickly and conduct a systematic scientific examination before evidence is disturbed or contaminated. Timely collection and preservation of forensic evidence is expected to improve the accuracy of investigations and enhance the chances of securing convictions.
The Mobile Forensic Van is part of a statewide initiative launched by the Karnataka Police in association with the State Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL), Bengaluru, to strengthen the use of scientific evidence in criminal investigations. Similar vehicles are being deployed across all districts to improve crime scene management and enhance the quality of investigations.
