BENGALURU: President of All India Congress Committee (AICC) Mallikarjun Kharge on Saturday slammed the attitude of Prime Minister Narendra Modi over his decision to skip the all-party meet to review the situation after Pahalgam terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir to attend poll rally in Bihar and stated “It shows Prime Minister is not serious on terror attack which claimed 26 lives and several injured (of tourists).”
Speaking to reporters in Bengaluru, Kharge termed the absence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the all-party meet on terror attack as “unfortunate” and said Prime Minister should have chaired the meeting and explained to the all-party leaders on terror attack whether it took place owing to security lapse/ intelligence failure or others reasons.
In the absence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he said the all party meeting was held in the presence of Union Minister of Defense Rajnath Singh and Union Minister of Home Amit Shah and Shah admitted “security lapse” led to the attack on tourists at Pahalgam and he assured the all-party leaders to initiate steps to thwart such attacks in future.
Kharge said he asked Amit Shah to take the Pahalgam terror attack as a “challenge” and said the attack on tourists at Pahalgam took place despite 3-tier security arrangements and security could not be provided to tourists. The main reason for the terror attack has been “security lapse.”
The AICC president said the all-party meeting assured Rajnath Singh and Amit Shah to support a decision initiated by the Union Government in the interest of the country and stated Amit Shah also assured the all-party leaders to initiate steps to identify lapses and persons involved for the terror attack at Pahalgam.
Asked about the Indus treaty between India and Pakistan put on hold by the Union Government, Kharge said he will react to it at an appropriate time and stated “Let’s see its results?”
“It is not right to react without waiting for the results (from the Indus treaty on hold),” said the president of AICC.
