670 Kudremukh Families Opt for Relocation, Says Karnataka Govt

The minister said the government has already provided compensation to 356 families residing within the Kudremukh forest area

Belagavi: Of the 1,382 families living inside Kudremukh National Park (KNP), 670 have voluntarily expressed willingness to relocate, Forest, Ecology and Environment Minister Eshwar B Khandre informed the Legislative Assembly on Wednesday.

Responding to a calling-attention notice by MLA Araga Jnanendra under Rule 73, the minister said the government has already provided compensation to 356 families residing within the Kudremukh forest area. Of the remaining 314 families, valuation of land for 76 families has been completed.

Khandre added that the government is ensuring maximum compensation for families opting for rehabilitation, covering houses, land and crops. The valuation is being carried out in accordance with the Revenue Department’s notification dated April 18, 2005.
