Mangaluru: The 7th Additional District and Sessions Court in Mangaluru has sentenced a 64-year-old man to five years of simple imprisonment in a POCSO case registered at Bellare police station in 2020.

The accused, Abdulla of Kadaba Taluk, was convicted under Sections 354(A)(1) and 506 of the IPC and Section 8 of the POCSO Act, 2012.

Judge Sumangala Chakalabbi sentenced him to five years in prison besides imposing a fine of Rs 35,000. The court ordered an additional six months of simple imprisonment if he fails to pay the fine.

The then Sulya Circle Inspector and investigating officer, Naveen Chandra Jogi, had filed the chargesheet before the court. Public Prosecutor Pushparaj argued the case on behalf of the prosecution.
