The inspections covered the background of firearm licence holders, the condition of the weapons and whether they had been modified without permission.
The four weapons with unauthorised modifications were found in the limits of Shankaranarayana, Kota, Brahmavar and Karkala Town police stations. Police have registered separate cases against the concerned persons under Section 25 of the Indian Arms Act, 1959.
The cases are under investigation.
Of the weapons checked, 1,759 were SBML guns, 554 SBBL, 318 DBBL, six DBML, 120 pistols, 119 revolvers, 30 rifles, 13 bore guns and six NP bore weapons.
The district police said inspections would continue to keep a check on the illegal use of firearms and unauthorised modifications.
