VIJAYAWADA: Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan has stated emphatically that the YSRC will not be granted opposition status during this five-year term.
“The party's failure to secure the necessary number of seats is the reason why it was not granted such a designation and this is as per the Indian democratic norms. It is not appropriate for the YSRC to say that they would enter the assembly only if they are given opposition status," he said.
The budget session of the Andhra Pradesh Assembly commenced on Monday with the Governor’s customary address of the joint sitting of MLAs and MLCs. However, immediately after the Governor began his address, YSRC MLAs and MLCs raised slogans demanding opposition status and later staged a walkout.
Later, the deputy CM spoke to the media, criticising the behavior of the YSRC members. He said, “If they want opposition status based on the percentage of votes, it is better for them to go to Germany. The percentage of votes is taken into account there, and here the seats are the basis.”
He noted that the people have given the YSRC only 11 seats. "Respect the people’s will and come to the assembly," he urged the YSRC legislators.
“For the next five years, YSRC leaders should mentally prepare themselves not to expect opposition status. This is as per established rules, and not because the chief minister willed so,” he added.
