YSRC MP Midhun Arrested in Rs.3,200 Cr Liquor Scam Case
Midhun Reddy appeared for questioning before the SIT on Saturday after the Supreme Court dismissed his anticipatory bail plea on Friday.
Vijayawada: In a major development in the ongoing investigation into the ₹3,200-crore AP liquor scam case, the CID’s Special Investigation Team (SIT) arrested YSRC MP P.V. Midhun Reddy, accused number four in the case, after grilling him for nearly six hours at its office here on Saturday.
Earlier in the day, the MP arrived at the SIT office from Delhi and attended the inquiry. SIT sleuths reportedly questioned him about his role with regard to formulation of liquor policy, placing orders for supply of some liquor brands, diversion of funds to shell companies, and enabling the diverted funds to reach the final beneficiary.
Midhun Reddy appeared for questioning before the SIT on Saturday after the Supreme Court dismissed his anticipatory bail plea on Friday. The apex court maintained that the investigation is at a crucial stage, with the AP High Court already denying the MP pre-arrest bail in the liquor scam case.
Significantly, the SIT has filed a 300-page preliminary chargesheet in the AP liquor scam case before the ACB court, along with submission of forensic lab reports and electronic gadgets. The report mentions the seizure of ₹62 crore, examination of nearly 268 witnesses and submission of depositions and remand reports of 11 persons in the case.
The Rajampet MP is the 12th person to be arrested in the case so far. The SIT had informed the Supreme Court that it would submit another chargesheet in the case in 20 days.
Following his arrest, Midhun Reddy is likely to be produced before the ACB court either late Saturday night or Sunday morning.
Kasireddy Rajasekhar Reddy is the main accused in the case. He had worked as an IT adviser in the previous YSRC government. Others booked in the case are retired IAS officer K. Dhananjaya Reddy and former OSD P. Krishna Mohan.
The SIT has also questioned former MP V. Vijayasai Reddy. Incidentally, Vijayasai Reddy skipped the questioning when the SIT summoned him for the second time recently.
