YSRC Ex-Corporator Suspended On Drug Charges
The family members of Satyanarayana claimed that he had no connection with the smuggling of narcotic drugs: Reports
KAKINADA: Ex-Corporator, Rokkala Satyanarayana, was suspended from the YSRC after he was arrested at Kochi port on May 25 for alleged smuggling of drugs from abroad.
The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence arrested Satyanarayana who, it said, carried three kilos of narcotic substances concealed in two bags and shaped like soap bars.
Another accused, Pandiri Arjunu Kumar, a native of Kakinada, was also taken into custody. Satyanarayana is a close associate of former YSRC MLA Dwarampudi Chandrasekhara Reddy. YSRC Kakinada city president Siva Prasanna said the party suspended Satyanarayana with immediate effect.
The family members of Satyanarayana claimed that he had no connection with the smuggling of narcotic drugs. They said the co-traveller Pandiri Arjun Kumar requested Satyanarayana to keep his box along with him, as the weight of his luggage was more than the prescribed limits.
They said that Arjun Kumar told the DRI as well as the court that Satyanarayana was innocent and he had no connection with the drugs.
The family requested the people and political parties not to blame Satyanarayana as he was not in the habit of even smoking cigarettes.
Meanwhile, Kakinada MLA Vanamadi Venkateswara Rao (Kondababu) said the Telugu Desam had been warning the people for the past six years that Dwarampudi Chandrasekhara Reddy was having links with the drugs mafia.
“The followers and associates of Chandrasekhara Reddy should be cautious as they could get entangled in serious legal troubles, even if they are not personally involved,” he said.
Rao said that during the YSRC rule, Dwarampudi had disappeared for a month without informing anyone about his whereabouts. When he (Rao) made inquiries, he got to know that Dwarampudi was allegedly linked to a drug-related mafia, he claimed.
