Former minister Kakani Govardhan Reddy— DC File

NELLORE: The YSR Congress has accused the coalition government of making a mockery of the electoral process through alleged malpractices in the ongoing local body elections, vowing to explore all legal avenues and take its fight to the people.

Addressing the media here on Sunday, former minister Kakani Govardhan Reddy alleged that Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu was afraid of the Opposition and was using official machinery to manipulate the election process.

“This time, YSRCP candidates entered the fray following Jagan Mohan Reddy’s call, exposing the failures of the coalition government on all fronts. This has unsettled Chandrababu Naidu, who is allegedly using the official machinery to manipulate the election process,” Kakani charged.

He alleged that despite Supreme Court directives, Opposition candidates continued to face intimidation. YSRC nominees were allegedly prevented from filing nominations, while some faced threats and had their nomination papers snatched or torn. In other cases, returning officers allegedly rejected nominations on flimsy grounds.

Kakani further alleged that candidates were being arrested and threatened in subsequent phases, while several active party leaders remained in jail.

Accusing Chandrababu Naidu of ignoring the Supreme Court’s observations and resorting to old tactics, he said the party was examining all available options to challenge the alleged irregularities.

“We will not withdraw from the electoral battle. We will explore every avenue and continue our fight,” Kakani asserted.
