VIJAYAWADA: The YSRC on Wednesday accused the coalition government of unfairly targeting village secretariat staff by shifting blame on to them without providing basic amenities or institutional support.

Addressing the media, Nalamaru Chandra Sekhar Reddy, state president of the party’s employees and pensioners’ wing, said the government was planning to issue memos to over 28,000 village secretariat staff for allegedly failing to create awareness about the Mana Mitra App. He termed the move unjustified, pointing out that the assumption that everyone owns and can operate a smartphone was far from reality.

“Only around 20 per cent of people actively use smartphones, while many still hesitate to adopt digital platforms. Penalising staff for this gap is unreasonable,” he said. Reddy alleged that after scrapping the volunteer system, the coalition government had weakened the village secretariat mechanism and was now proposing action against employees for tasks that were not included in their job cards.

He condemned the move to issue memos without providing adequate facilities, training or clarity on responsibilities, and demanded that the government stop harassing staff.

The YSRC leader also accused the coalition government of pursuing an “anti-employee policy” by withholding four instalments of dearness allowance, interim relief, Pay Revision Commission benefits and other financial dues, besides diverting employees’ savings.
