VIJAYAWADA: AP EAGLE chief and IGP Aake Ravikrishna urged students and youth to stay away from drugs and develop the courage to say “no” to peer pressure. He was speaking at the ‘Grand Walkathon-2026’ organised by Chalapathi University, Mothadaka, on Friday to mark Mahatma Gandhi’s birth anniversary. Held under the slogan “Walk for Peace – Stand Against Drugs”, the 15-km walkathon began at the university and ended at the Dhyana Buddha statue in Amaravathi.

More than 1,500 students, faculty members, youth and EAGLE officials participated, carrying the message of peace, health and a drug-free society through the “Break the Silence” campaign. Ravikrishna, who flagged off the walkathon, urged youth to follow Gandhi’s principles of non-violence, peace and truth and contribute to building a better society.

Citing the cases of two students whose lives were ruined by drug addiction, he spoke about the suffering of their mothers. One of the students is currently serving a sentence at Visakhapatnam Central Jail, he said, warning that a single wrong decision could ruin an individual’s future and affect the family. He advised students not to succumb to peer pressure or temptation and to firmly say “NO” to marijuana and drugs.

Ravikrishna urged people to report information on drug transportation, sale or consumption to the AP EAGLE helpline 1972, assuring confidentiality of informants. He walked alongside students with the message: “Every Step for Health, Every Step for Harmony, Every Step for Peace.”

EAGLE Admin SP Swaroopa Rani, DSP Trinath, CI Victor, CIET chancellor Y.V. Anjaneyulu and vice-chancellor B.V. Chowdary attended.
