World Bank Delegation Visits Amaravati
Amaravati development corporation chairperson and managing director D Lakshmi Parthasarathi informed the delegation that they had come up with a grand plan on flood control in Amaravati for 100 years.
Vijayawada: A delegation of nine representatives from the World Bank led by its vice president and chief rescue officer Dennis Mc Laughiln visited Amaravati and inspected several works on Monday.
Amaravati development corporation chairperson and managing director D Lakshmi Parthasarathi informed the delegation that they had come up with a grand plan on flood control in Amaravati for 100 years.
The delegation examined several works like gravity canal development works at E:3-N:16 Junction.
The ADC chairperson informed the delegation about several tourism development projects and also how the rivulets and reservoirs were being developed to avoid any flooding in the next 100 years. She told them about the ecotourism projects being taken up as part of the flood mitigation programme and also how the 35 arterial roads and sub-arterial roads would be having transport facilities and help promote tourism in a big way.
The chairperson informed about how the 7.8 km length gravity canal being developed would promote boating as also development of international themes in the plots coming up in a 5,000 square meter area.
She said the Kondaveeti Vagu at a stretch of 24.4km and Palavagu at a stretch of 17.24km were being developed with avenue plantation.
As part of flood mitigation plans, they were developing the Penamaka reservoir with a capacity of 0.1 tmc, the Sakhamuru in 50 acres with 0.03tmc and the Neerukonda reservoir with 0.4tmc capacity, she said, and added that, with such facilities, Amaravati would become a major tourism centre.
