Visakhapatnam:Twenty four hours after the state government issued a health advisory, a 28-year-old woman tested positive to Covid in Visakhapatnam on Thursday.

This was the first Covid case in the state this season, raising fears of a recurrence of the pandemic scenario.

DMO Dr Jagadiswara Rao said the woman had cold and fever and showed symptoms of Covid. She was admitted to a corporate hospital. Later, a test was conducted in King George Hospital, where the doctors declared her positive. She was back to normal in the evening and discharged from the hospital on Thursday.

She was quarantined and her husband and two children were also being tested. All the people surrounding her house would also be tested as per government orders.

“She was the only person to be tested for Covid in Visakhapatnam so far,’’ the DMHO told Deccan Chronicle, suggesting that patients suffering from influenza and upper respiratory problems get tested for Covid.

He said the government has issued an advisory to the people on the precautions to be taken.

Senior citizens above age 60 and comorbid patients must remain indoors and avoid meetings and congregations. COPD patients and others having lung diseases must get tested for Covid in the King George Hospital. As of now fever surveys are going on in the district following an advisory from the government, the DMHO said.

The district breached the mark of 15,000 Covid cases in Visakhapatnam in 2020.
