Guntur: A woman allegedly murdered her husband with the help of her lover in Chiluvuru village of Duggirala mandal. The accused later attempted to portray the death as natural, police said on Wednesday.

According to Mangalagiri Rural CI Venkatabrahmam and Duggirala SI Venkata Ravi, the deceased, Lokam Siva Nagaraju, an onion trader, was found dead under suspicious circumstances two days ago. Nagaraju had married Lakshmi Madhuri in 2007, and the couple had two sons.
Police said Madhuri, who worked at a cinema theatre ticket counter in Vijayawada, developed an extramarital relationship with Gopi, a resident of Sattenapalli. Differences arose between the couple after she forced her husband to shut down his business and later sent him to Hyderabad, where her lover was running car travels. When Nagaraju returned to Chiluvuru and resumed staying at home, tensions escalated.
On the night of January 18, Madhuri allegedly mixed powdered sleeping pills into biryani and served it to her husband. After he fell into deep sleep, Gopi arrived at around 11.30 pm. Police said Gopi sat on Nagaraju’s chest while Madhuri suffocated him with a pillow, killing him. After confirming his death, Gopi fled the scene.
In the early hours of the morning, Madhuri alerted neighbours, claiming her husband had died of chest pain. However, locals, aware of the couple’s frequent disputes and her extramarital affair, grew suspicious. Friends of the deceased noticed bleeding from his ear and visible injuries and lodged a complaint with the police.
A post-mortem examination revealed broken ribs and death due to suffocation. During questioning, Madhuri reportedly confessed to the crime. Police have registered a case and the investigation is underway.
