Kakinada:Labour minister Vasamsetti Subhash said the weaving sector will regain its previous glory as the alliance government is taking steps in this direction. The minister reviewed the progress of work on handlooms and textiles at Addampalli village in Gangavaram mandal on Saturday.
He said Chief Minister N.Chandrababu Naidu has taken steps to rejuvenate the weaving sector, and electricity will be supplied up to 200 units for weavers and 500 units for power looms.
On this occasion, several weavers requested the government to take steps to revive sales through APCO by granting tripartite loans, increasing the draw limit from 75 percent to 90 percent, and immediately releasing the pending dues in APCO. The minister said efforts are being made to provide financial assistance of `25,000 under the Netanna Nestham scheme as promised by Chandrababu Naidu.
Responding to the demands of the weavers, Subhash said the government is inviting applications for new designs to bring out the skills of handloom workers.
