Nellore: Prakasam district superintendent of police Harshavardhan Raju on Sunday appealed to the public to treat the helmet as a life-saving shield and wear it without fail to protect themselves from fatal road accidents.

As part of road accident prevention measures, the Prakasam district police conducted a special awareness drive on helmet usage and road safety rules under the directions of the SP.

Police officers, staff and road safety warriors jointly participated in the drive and educated two-wheeler riders on the importance of wearing helmets.

Officials explained that many deaths in road accidents occur due to severe head injuries sustained while riding without a helmet. They said such accidents destroy families and stressed that wearing a helmet can significantly reduce the risk of death and serious injury.

The police urged all two-wheeler riders to wear helmets and strictly follow traffic rules to ensure their safety. They said a helmet acts as a protective shield for riders and should be compulsory for every person travelling on a two-wheeler.

Officials also advised that every rider must carry a valid driving licence and warned against drunk driving, over-speeding, triple riding, using mobile phones while driving and allowing minors to ride vehicles.

They appealed to motorists to follow road safety rules and reminded them that wearing a helmet not only protects their own lives but also safeguards the happiness of their families.
