Anantapur MP Ambika Lakshmi Narayana and government Whip Kalava Srinivasulu release water from the BTP project.

ANANTAPUR: Keeping in view the irrigation needs of farmers under the Bhairavani Thippa Project (BTP) in Gummagatta mandal of the Rayadurgam Assembly segment in Anantapur district, Whip Kalava Srinivasulu and Anantapur MP Ambika Lakshmi Narayana on Sunday released water from the project after offering special poojas.

Water was released into both the right and left canals following traditional rituals at the BTP reservoir.

At present, irrigation benefits extend to about 5,000 acres, while the total ayacut under the BTP project is around 12,000 acres. The release of water is expected to significantly benefit farmers during the Rabi season, especially in the Rayadurgam region where soil and climatic conditions favour paddy cultivation.

Sources said that due to heavy rainfall in Karnataka in recent days, nearly 5 TMC of water flowed into the Bhairavani Thippa Project. As the storage capacity of the project is only 2 TMC, surplus water is being released downstream to fill irrigation tanks in the surrounding areas.

On the occasion, farmers cultivating crops under the right and left canals of the Bhairavani Thippa Project were advised to use water judiciously and aim for higher crop yields.
