Waltair Division Marks Year of ‘Sundays on Cycle
Bohra said, The Fit India Cycling Drive began on December 17, 2024, in New Delhi and has since evolved into a nationwide campaign
Visakhapatnam: The Waltair Division of the East Coast Railway marked a milestone in public health promotion on Sunday by organising a vibrant cycle rally to celebrate one year of the ‘Sundays on Cycle’ initiative under the Khelo India Scheme’s Fit India programme.
The rally commenced at Tenneti Park and proceeded along the scenic Beach Road to the Vizag Viewpoint, drawing enthusiastic participation from railway officers and employees, their family members, and noted sports personalities.
Divisional railway manager Lalit Bohra, who flagged off and led the rally, spoke about the larger vision behind the initiative, which is being organised by the East Coast Railway Sports Association, Waltair. He traced its roots to the Fit India Movement launched by the Prime Minister in 2019.
“The Fit India Cycling Drive began on December 17, 2024, in New Delhi and has since evolved into a nationwide campaign,” Bohra said. He added that the Prime Minister had also highlighted the ‘Sundays on Cycle’ initiative in the 117th episode of Mann Ki Baat, underlining its importance in promoting health and wellness across the country.
Initially launched as a cycling-focused programme, the initiative has since expanded to include activities such as yoga, Zumba and skipping rope, widening its appeal and encouraging people of all age groups to adopt active and healthy lifestyles.
Anakapalli gets modern CCTV control room
Visakhapatnam: Anakapalli Member of Parliament C.M. Ramesh on Sunday inaugurated a state-of-the-art CCTV control room at the Anakapalli Town Police Station. The facility has been set up using funds from the MP Local Area Development Scheme (MPLADS).
The control room will monitor 80 CCTV cameras installed at strategic locations across Anakapalli town round the clock. The surveillance system is aimed at strengthening crime prevention, aiding investigations, managing traffic and enhancing women’s safety in the rapidly developing district.
District superintendent of police Tuhin Sinha highlighted the role of technology in modern policing. “With the integration of technology, police response time in crime investigation will improve. These 80 cameras will also help in traffic regulation and in providing quicker 112 emergency services to victims,” he said.
In a related initiative, district collector Vijaya Krishnan flagged off a vehicle allocated by the MP for maintaining law and order and improving women’s safety in the district.
In addition, 55 stopper boards provided by Nagarjuna Cements under its corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative were handed over to assist traffic management in Anakapalli town.
Addressing the gathering, Ramesh stressed that public safety was a top priority. “I urge the police to make effective use of technology to curb crime. The district police machinery will always have the full cooperation of public representatives,” he said.
