The Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) has earmarked a dedicated wall near NTR Circle for putting up posters and warned of legal action against those pasting them elsewhere in the city.
VMC commissioner H.M. Dhyanachandra, who inspected several parts of the city on Saturday, identified the wall on the road leading to Pantakaluva and directed officials to implement it as a “Dedicated Wall for Posters”.
Dhyanachandra said the civic body was taking measures to make Vijayawada free of unauthorised posters, but they continued to appear at several locations. He directed people wishing to put up posters to use only the designated wall.
During his field visit, the commissioner inspected Mahatma Gandhi Road, Pantakaluva Road, the Auto Nagar Garbage Transfer Station and Patamata. At the garbage transfer station, he reviewed waste clearance and expressed satisfaction over the timely shifting of waste.
He also inspected the Anna Canteen at Patamata and directed officials to improve its facilities and maintain a clean environment.
Meanwhile, the VMC intensified sanitation inspections at hotels, restaurants and tiffin centres in sanitary divisions 39, 40, 41 and 42. The inspections, conducted under AMOH Dr Annapurna, focused on hygiene, food-waste management, availability of dustbins and cleanliness of surroundings.
Officials inspected several establishments, including Tirumala Restaurant, Balaji Hotel, Pandu Hotel and Gupta Tiffin Centre, and imposed ₹4,000 in fines for violations. Notices were issued to establishments with deficiencies, giving them seven days to rectify them. Failure to comply could result in cancellation of trade licences and further penalties, officials warned.
