Vizianagaram: Pilgrimage Turns Tragic as Lorry Rams Van, Three Killed
According to reports, 16 members from three families belonging to Bochapeta in Padmanabham mandal of Visakhapatnam district, Boddavalasa in Denkada mandal, and Chelluru village in Vizianagaram district had hired a van to travel to Rayagada on a pilgrimage.
Vizianagaram: In a tragic incident, an eight-year-old boy and two others were killed when a speeding lorry rammed into a stationary van shortly after midnight on Monday. The accident occurred near Chelluru mandal in Vizianagaram district.
According to reports, 16 members from three families belonging to Bochapeta in Padmanabham mandal of Visakhapatnam district, Boddavalasa in Denkada mandal, and Chelluru village in Vizianagaram district had hired a van to travel to Rayagada on a pilgrimage.
The van started from Bochapeta on Monday night and picked up a few passengers at Ayanada Junction before stopping at Chelluru. While the vehicle was parked, a speeding lorry travelling from Visakhapatnam rammed into it from behind and dragged it for nearly 500 metres.
The impact was so severe that three passengers died on the spot. The deceased were identified as Chintapalli Rambabu alias Ramu Naidu (50), Majji Narayana Rao (50), and B. Mohana Naidu (8), all residents of Bochapeta.
