Vizag Skill Sail Launched To Drive Maritime Talent, Green Innovation

Visakhapatnam: Visakhapatnam Port Authority (VPA) launched “Vizag Skill Sail 2025 – Skill Development Conclave with Green Port Start-up” on Friday, aiming to strengthen maritime skill development and promote sustainable port innovations. The event brought together government officials, industry leaders, and academics to explore opportunities in skill development, entrepreneurship, and eco-friendly port solutions.

VPA chairperson Dr M. Angamuthu outlined short- and long-term plans aligned with the Prime Minister’s Vision 2047 for a vibrant India. He highlighted Vizag’s potential as a maritime and educational hub, supported by the state government’s commitment to transforming it into Andhra Pradesh’s financial capital. He reaffirmed VPA’s goal to train 5,000 students annually, scaling up to 5 lakh by 2047.

District collector M. N. Harendhira Prasad stated that the Swarnandhra 2047 vision aims to achieve a $2.4 trillion economy through port-led manufacturing and a skilled workforce. Joint secretary R. Lakshmanan noted plans to develop shipbuilding clusters and partnerships with IMU and CEMS.

Principal commissioner of customs N. Sridhar praised VPA’s green initiatives. T.K. Ramachandran introduced the green port startup innovation challenge, which focuses on cleaner ports, plastic-to-product innovations, and the integration of renewable energy.

Students from IMU, CEMS, and business schools actively participated, engaging with maritime experts.
