Vizag Runner Clocks 7,642 Km For Soil Conservation
Visakhapatnam runner Challa Subramanya Sharma completed a 21.1-km half marathon as part of his campaign to promote soil conservation.
Challa Subramanya Sharma, a 58-year-old chartered civil engineer from Visakhapatnam, completed the 21.1-km Vizag Half Marathon on Sunday as part of his campaign to promote soil conservation.
Over the past four and a half years, Sharma has run 7,642 km across cities including Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, Kakinada, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Goa, Raipur and Bhubaneswar to highlight the importance of healthy soil.
Sharma said public discussions often focus on air and water pollution while overlooking soil degradation, despite its vital role in food production and ecological balance. Improving soil health would benefit agriculture, water resources and the environment, he said.
He said running events provide an effective platform to spread awareness about soil protection and regeneration. Sharma plans to continue participating in events across the country to promote soil conservation and sustainable environmental practices.
