Visakhapatnam: MP from Visakhapatnam M. Sribharat on Wednesday met union Railway minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Wednesday and brought to the latter’s attention a series of issues related to railway infrastructure, pedestrian safety and administrative clarity in AP.
He appreciated progress on works in South Coast Railway (SCoR) Zone, leading to strengthening of railway administration in the region. He underlined that a formal gazette notification of SCoR Zone is crucial for operational clarity and for fulfilling the long-standing expectations of the people in Andhra Pradesh.
A major discussion between the MP and the Railway minister related to public safety concerns in the Srungavarapukota constituency. He sought sanction of a foot over bridge (FOB) at Mangalapalem village, where residents, students and senior citizens are forced to cross active railway tracks due to the absence of safe crossing.
Sribharat highlighted the persistent waterlogging at the road under bridge (RUB) in Kothavalasa, which makes it inaccessible during large parts of the year. This, he said, compels thousands of daily commuters, including nearly 3,000 students, to take unsafe routes. To address this, he requested the ministry for either a new FOB or a pedestrian footpath ramp alongside the existing RUB.
The MP said the railway minister assured him to take appropriate action after examining all these issues.
