Visakhapatnam: A 25-year-old man, Narendra, died by suicide at his home in Visakhapatnam's Maharanipeta area on December 8 allegedly due to harassment by an instant loan app company. Narendra, who recently married on October 20, had borrowed ₹2,000 through the app and repaid more than the principal amount with interest. Despite this, he was pressured to clear an outstanding balance.
Loan app employees reportedly harassed him relentlessly and circulated morphed images of him and his wife to his contacts, causing severe distress. Following the incident, Narendra's family approached the city police chief and Vizag district collector, demanding strict action against the app's team.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (East Division) L. Lakshmana Murthy confirmed that a cybercrime case has been registered, and an investigation is underway to identify those responsible for the harassment and establish the exact circumstances leading to Narendra's death.
