Vijayawada:  A video has surfaced of a person getting injured and later dying after being run over by a car in which YSRC president and former chief minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy had allegedly been travelling to Rentapalla village.

AP police have started an investigation into the matter. The person who died has been identified as YSRC activist Cheeli Singaiah.

The incident occurred on June 18 near Etukuru village on the outskirts of Guntur city when Jagan had been visiting Sattenapalli to meet the family of a YSRC activist who had died after committing suicide a year earlier.

While police had authorised only three vehicles and about 100 supporters for the visit, a large number of people, including in cars, followed the convoy of Jagan from Tadepalli to Rentapalla village.

Singaiah had been among the participants who had approached Jagan's vehicle to offer flowers. The video clip showed that in the rush and commotion, Singaiah had fallen under the wheels of a vehicle. YSRC leaders and activists, along with a local ASI, took him to a local hospital, where doctors declared Singaiah had already died.

Initially, Guntur SP S. Satish Kumar had stated that Singaiah had been run over by an unidentified vehicle in the convoy. However, after reviewing CCTV footage and field reports, the police have reportedly confirmed that Jagan Mohan Reddy had been in that vehicle.
