Vijayawada Municipal Corporation Mandates Daily Water Quality Tests
The commissioner also asked amenities secretaries to collect daily public feedback on water quality.
Vijayawada: Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) commissioner H.M. Dhyanchandra has directed officials to conduct mandatory daily tests of drinking water quality across the city, underscoring that the supply of safe and pure water is a primary civic responsibility.
The commissioner issued the instructions during an inspection of water supply arrangements at several localities, including Vemula Shyamaladevi Road, A.S. Rama Rao Road, Christurajapuram, Gangireddula Dibba and Mahanadu Road. He began his tour with a visit to the Gangireddula Dibba Water Treatment Plant, where he reviewed the purification and distribution processes.
Dhyanchandra observed that ageing and damaged pipelines were leading to leakages and increasing the risk of contamination. He directed officials to replace such pipelines promptly and ensure continuous monitoring so that water remains uncontaminated from the treatment plant to consumers’ taps.
Officials were also asked to verify daily whether purified drinking water was reaching all households.
Special focus was laid on hill and elevated areas that often face supply issues. Assistant Engineers and Amenities staff were instructed to conduct daily field inspections, interact with residents and resolve complaints without delay.
The commissioner also asked amenities secretaries to collect daily public feedback on water quality.
In cases of foul odour, officials were told to immediately determine whether it was due to chlorination or contamination and take corrective action. Zonal commissioner K. Shammie and other senior officials accompanied him.
