Vijayawada Corporators Get Firsthand Feel of Composting Process in Thiruvananthapuram

Vijayawada: As part of their knowledge tour to south Indian states, a delegation of corporators from the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation visited the Thiruvananthapuram Municipal Corporation, the capital city of Kerala, on Tuesday. Thiruvananthapuram Municipal Corporation deputy mayor P.K. Raju welcomed Vijayawada deputy mayor Avuthu Sailaja Reddy, tour coordinator and floor leader Venkata Satyanarayana and other corporators. Raju stated that Thiruvananthapuram consists of 100 divisions and 25 zones, as it is a state capital, there is a shortage of space for waste management. Hence, they are managing waste in limited available spaces.
Raju mentioned that there are compost plants in 70 areas that convert waste into manure. He further said that a total of 64,430 three-layered bins have been distributed to 64,430 households, and around 87,000 households are producing compost through pipe composting methods. Following this, the corporators were taken on a field visit where they were shown the composting process of converting waste into manure.
