VIJAYAWADA: The video of the police beating three rowdy sheeters on a road at Tenali went viral on social media platforms, and the officials started an investigation about the viral footage. According to the reports, the incident took place last month, and it came to light on Monday.

The reports stated the police in Tenali town took action against three individuals accused of assaulting a police constable last month in Ithanagar. The accused Chebrolu John Victor, 25, Shaik Babulal, 21, and Doma Rakesh, 25 are alleged to be close associates of a known rowdy-sheeter named Laddu.

Tenali Two Town Police circle inspector Ramulu Naik said the incident occurred nearly a month ago when the trio, along with another individual identified as 'Killer', allegedly attacked Constable Kanna Chiranjeevi while under the influence of ganja. The constable was reportedly hospitalised following the assault. A case was subsequently registered based on his complaint.

The police arrested the accused and produced them before court, after which they were sent to judicial remand, and they are now in jail. However, during the arrest, the police made the three accused sit on the ground and beat them on their feet. A video of the incident surfaced on social media and quickly went viral.

The video triggered a range of public responses. While some expressed support for the police action, citing the criminal background of the accused, others raised concerns over the legality and ethics of such public punishment by law enforcement.

Ramulu Naik stated that all three accused have criminal histories. Victor is said to have nine cases against him, including charges of attempt to murder. Rakesh has six pending cases, including similar serious charges, and Babulal was involved in the current case of assault on the constable.
