Venkatagiri Weaver Bags Sant Kabir Award For Excellence In Handloom
The Sant Kabir Award, instituted by the Government of India in honour of the 15th-century poet-saint Sant Kabir, is conferred on exceptional handloom artisans who have made remarkable contributions to preserving and promoting India’s traditional weaving heritage.
Nellore: Lakka Srinivasulu, a handloom weaver from Boppavaram village in Venkatagiri mandal of Tirupati district, has been selected for the prestigious Sant Kabir Award for the year 2024 by the Union Ministry of Textiles.
The Sant Kabir Award, instituted by the Government of India in honour of the 15th-century poet-saint Sant Kabir, is conferred on exceptional handloom artisans who have made remarkable contributions to preserving and promoting India’s traditional weaving heritage.
The award recognises not only technical excellence but also a weaver’s commitment to passing on time-honoured designs and techniques to future generations.
Srinivasulu was chosen from Andhra Pradesh for his mastery in weaving traditional Venkatagiri Jamdani sarees, a complex and highly skilled form of handloom weaving that blends precision with creativity.
A resident of Sali Colony in Boppavaram, Srinivasulu is renowned for his expertise in the craft and has received several accolades at both the state and national levels.
Through his dedication, he has played a vital role in preserving the legacy of Venkatagiri sarees and continues to inspire younger generations to take up the traditional craft.
