NELLORE: Kondabitragunta’s Sri Prasanna Venkateswara Swamy Temple is set to regain its spiritual landmark with reconstruction of the major koneru (temple tank) with philanthropists Vemireddy Prabhakar Reddy, MP, and Vemireddy Prashanthi Reddy (MLA) donating ₹2.10 crore for the purpose. The koneru is expected to be in place for the next year’s Brahmotsavams at the temple.

Sunday witnessed the laying of foundation stone for the Koneru at a grand ceremony attended by local legislators, temple officials, and devotees. On the occasion, another foundation stone has been laid for the temple’s Maha Prakaram or the outer wall, which will be constructed with temple endowment funding ₹1.65 crore.

Temple authorities welcomed the koneru donors and performed special Vedic rituals for ground-breaking of both the temple tank and outer wall.

Speaking on the occasion, Vemireddy Prabhakar Reddy said he considers reconstruction of the temple’s koneru as a blessing, calling it an act made possible by the grace of the deity. He highlighted the temple’s 800-year-old history and called for collective participation in its development.

In her address, Vemireddy Prashanthi Reddy shared her joy at finally being able to visit the temple and take part in its development. She responded positively to the proposal for setting up a Vedic school under TTD’s guidance.

Kavali MLA Kavya Krishna Reddy said the temple will undergo holistic development with around ₹15 crore being spent by both donors and the government. He said the temple’s eastern entrance and steps are being restored, correcting the historical alterations made during the colonial period.

Temple authorities, local leaders and devotees expressed hope that these projects would enhance both the spiritual and cultural significance of Kondabitragunta, attracting more pilgrims and preserving the temple’s heritage for generations to come.
