Urban Bodies Revived Under NDA Rule, Claims Telugu Desam
Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, Guntur and Tirupati had received improved storm-water drainage and underground drainage networks spanning over 300km.
Vijayawada:Telugu Desam national spokesperson Neelayapalem Vijay Kumar on Thursday claimed that the state government had initiated major financial and administrative reforms in 123 urban local bodies in Andhra Pradesh over the past 30 months.
This reversed the scenario of neglect during the five years under the YSR Congress government, he claimed.
Addressing the media at the TD national office in Mangalagiri, he said the government had taken up urban infrastructure projects worth Rs 11,359 crore and rebuilt over 2,160km of municipal roads.
Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, Guntur and Tirupati had received improved storm-water drainage and underground drainage networks spanning over 300km.
Some 6.8 lakh urban households received piped drinking water under AMRUT 2.0, while 120 lakh tonnes of legacy waste was cleared through scientific methods. Five cities, including Rajahmundry, received national-level Swachh Survekshan recognition, he added.
Vijay Kumar alleged that the previous government diverted `8,600 crore in Central Finance Commission grants, undermining municipal finances. The present government restored direct fund transfers, eased property tax burdens and ensured timely salaries for sanitation workers.
He also cited Anna Canteens, TIDCO housing, free gas cylinders and employment opportunities generated by IT and industrial investments. He appealed to voters to elect TDP-Jana Sena-BJP alliance candidates in the municipal elections, promising coordinated governance and improved civic amenities.
