Two Red Sanders Smugglers Sentenced To Five Years’ Jail

Tirupati: The Red Sanders Special (RSS) Court in Tirupati on Tuesday sentenced two red sanders smugglers to five years’ rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 6 lakh.

The judgment was delivered by Additional district and Sessions Judge Narasimha Murthy in Crime No. 06/2017, which pertains to the illegal felling and transportation of red sanders from the Seshachalam Reserve Forest in Tirupati district.

The convicts were identified as Vijaya Kumar and M. Mani, both natives of Tiruvannamalai district in Tamil Nadu. They were arrested in 2017 in the T.N. Palem section of the Nagapatla forest range.

During the trial, the prosecution produced material evidence establishing the involvement of the accused in the smuggling operation. After examining the records, the court held them guilty and awarded five years’ imprisonment along with a fine of Rs 6 lakh.

The case was taken up as part of a special review of pending cases by the Red Sanders Anti-Smuggling Task Force (RSASTF) under an action plan prepared by its head, L. Subba Rayudu. The investigation was carried out under the supervision of RSASTF Superintendent of Police P. Srinivas.

Special public prosecutor Aluguri Amara Narayana represented the prosecution.

Following the court’s order, the convicts were shifted to Nellore Central Jail.
